Avoid Nonessential Travel
U.S. Department of State
- Burundi Travel Warning. The Department of State warns U.S. citizens against travel to Burundi due to ongoing political tensions, armed violence, and the potential for civil unrest.
- North Korea Travel Warning. The State Department strongly urges U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to North Korea/the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) due to the serious risk of arrest and long-term detention under North Korea’s system of law enforcement, which imposes unduly harsh sentences, including for actions that in the United States would not be considered crimes and which threaten U.S. citizen detainees with being treated in accordance with “wartime law of the DPRK.”

- Measles in Romania. A measles outbreak has been reported in Romania. CDC recommends that travelers to Romania protect themselves by making sure they are vaccinated against measles, particularly infants 6–11 months of age (1 dose of measles vaccine) and children 12 months of age or older (2 doses of measles vaccine).

- Haiti Travel Alert. The State Department has revised the Travel Alert last updated on June 10, 2016, concerning the presidential election period in light of the announcement by Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council of a new election calendar, revised due to Hurricane Matthew, with a first round of elections now scheduled for November 20, 2016, and a second round scheduled for January 29, 2017.

- Zika virus advisory. Local mosquito transmission of Zika virus infection (Zika) has been reported in Palau. Local mosquito transmission means that mosquitoes in the area are infected with Zika virus and are spreading it to people.
