013117 – Immigration Executive Order

On Friday, January 27, President Donald Trump issued an executive order that, with some exceptions, prevents foreign nationals from seven countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen) from entering the United States.

UT Dallas travelers directly impacted by the executive order:

Citizens of the seven affected countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen) who are currently outside the United States may face difficulties re-entering the U.S. UT Dallas travelers directly impacted may contact UT Dallas through any of the following channels:

• Contact your Dean or Department Head
• Call the UT-dedicated ISOS phone number: +1-215-942-8059, or their general phone line: +1-215-942-8226. Identify yourself as a UT Dallas faculty, staff or student.

Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend the following to UT Dallas travelers:

• Verify the phone and email in your MyTrips profile in International SOS and Concur. This will help UT Dallas reach you in case of emergency.
• Register your UT Dallas-related travel itinerary, including all side trips in International SOS and print your ISOS card.
• In case of emergency, contact local assistance services and International SOS.

Stay connected and aware of current developments

• Stay in touch with your family members and ensure they know how to reach you.
• Monitor your UT Dallas email address for travel updates from ISOS and UT Dallas.
• Download the ISOS assistance app to get travel notifications and alerts relevant to your destination.
• Monitor the media and local developments closely, and follow any instructions or advice issued by the local authorities.

Be prepared

• Review or create an emergency communication plan.
• Avoid large crowds, crowded places, and demonstrations.
• Remember that in some countries it is illegal for U.S. citizens to witness, take pictures, record and/or participate in demonstrations while abroad.

• Travelers should seek advice from an experienced immigration attorney if they have questions about whether their travel plans may be affected by the executive order.

• Immigration News: This resource will be updated after final versions of laws are released, and potential impacts have been determined.  We encourage faculty, staff, and students to reach out and contact the International Center if they are impacted by any of the changes.
