Avoid Nonessential Travel

U.S. Department of State

  • Cameroon Travel Warning. The State Department warns U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to the North and Far North Regions and parts of the East and Adamawa Regions of Cameroon due to terrorist threats and the risk of violent crime.
  • Cuba Travel Warning. The Department of State warns U.S. citizens not to travel to Cuba.

CDC

  • Malaria in Cyprus. At this time, CDC recommends that travelers to Esentepe (Agios Amvrosios) take medicine to prevent malaria. Because malaria is spread by mosquito bites, all travelers to Cyprus should also prevent mosquito bites.
  • Chikungunya in Italy. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported locally transmitted cases of chikungunya in four areas of Italy. Local transmission means that mosquitoes in those areas of Italy have been infected with chikungunya and are spreading it to people.

  • Turkey Travel Warning. The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the continuing threats from terrorist groups in Turkey.

U.S. Homeland Security

  • FEMA Encourages Gulf Coast Residents to Monitor Status of Tropical Depression. According to the National Hurricane Center, the depression is forecast to strengthen and bring tropical storm conditions and heavy rainfall to portions of Nicaragua and Honduras tonight through Thursday. The system is forecast to continue strengthening over the Gulf of Mexico and could affect portions of the northern Gulf Coast of the Unites States as a hurricane this weekend, with direct impacts from wind, storm surge, and heavy rainfall.

  • International SOS & Control Risks Bali Travel Alert. Indonesia’s Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre (PVMBG) on 2 October 2017 maintains a Level IV or ‘beware’ alert (the highest level in a four-tier warning system) for Mount Agung volcano (Bali province). The alert means that an eruption could be imminent, though there is no specific forecast about the exact timing available.
