This report intends to give the UTD Community a snapshot of the impact, preventative measures, and travel restrictions due to COVID-19 as reported by the linked official sources from the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
Be aware that reported travel restrictions impacting international travel to specific countries may not apply the same to travelers from all countries.

Impact
- Colombia * DOS * Reconsider travel to Colombia due to COVID-19. Exercise increased caution in Colombia due to crime, terrorism and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk. Read the entire Travel Advisory. Read the Department of State’s COVID-19 page before you plan any international travel. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Colombia due to COVID-19. Colombia has lifted stay at home orders and resumed some transportation and business operations. Visit the Embassy’s COVID-19 page for more information on COVID-19 in Colombia.
- Cyprus * GOV.UK * The FCDO advise against all non-essential travel to Cyprus. This is based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.
- Lithuania * GOV.UK * The FCDO advise against all non-essential travel to Lithuania. This is based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.
- Mauritius * DOS * Reconsider travel to Mauritius due to COVID-19. Read the Department of State’s COVID-19 page before you plan any international travel. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Travel Health Notice for Mauritius due to COVID-19. Mauritius has resumed transportation options, including international air travel, although all travelers must undergo a 14-day quarantine. - Multi-country * Communicable disease threats report, 25-31 October 2020, week 44 * COVID-19. Since 24 October 2020 and as of 30 October 2020, 3 348 664 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) (in accordance with the applied case definition in the countries) have been reported, including 43 628 new deaths. Globally, the number of cases has increased from 41 771 932 to 45 120 596, and the number of deaths has risen from 1 138 780 to 1 182 408. In the EU/EEA and the United Kingdom (UK), the number of cases has increased from 5 528 320 to 6 930 071 (+1 401 751 cases), and the number of deaths has risen from 205 986 to 217 104 (+11 118 deaths). - Panama * DOS * Reconsider travel to Panama due to COVID-19. Some areas have increased risk due to crime. Read the entire Travel Advisory. Read the Department of State’s COVID-19 page before you plan any international travel. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Panama due to COVID-19. Panama has resumed most transportation options (including airport operations and re-opening of borders) and business operations. Other improved conditions have been reported in Panama. - Papua New Guinea * CDC * COVID-19 risk in Papua New Guinea is moderate. CDC recommends that people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 postpone nonessential travel to Papua New Guinea.
- Seychelles * CDC * COVID-19 risk in Seychelles is moderate. CDC recommends that people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 postpone nonessential travel to Seychelles.
Preventative Measures
- Azerbaijan * GOV.UK * The authorities have extended the ‘quarantine regime’ in Azerbaijan to 1 December. The Baku Metro is temporarily suspended. Public transport remains closed in Baku and a number of towns and cities across Azerbaijan during weekends. For a list of areas effected, see the APA news site. Schools and educational facilities have closed until 2 November. The wearing of facemasks is now mandatory in public places. There are fines for violations, which are doubled for repeat offences.
- Azores * GC.CA * Preventative measures and restrictions are in place. You must wear a face covering in public. If you violate the restrictions, you could be fined for endangering public health.
- Bahrain * GC.CA * Preventative measures and restrictions are in place. You must wear a face covering in public areas, including on public transportation and taxis. If you violate these restrictions, you could be fined for endangering public health.
- Belgium * GOV.UK * The Belgian Government has announced a number of stricter measures which will remain in place across the country until at least 13 December. From 2 November the combined set of new and existing measures includes: the complete closure of restaurants, cafés and bars; a curfew from midnight – 5am (note in Brussels and Wallonia the curfew is in place from 10pm – 6am); and the limitation of close contacts to one person.
- Czech Republic * GC.CA * Preventative measures and restrictions are in place. Non-essential domestic travel is prohibited until further notice and a curfew is in effect from 9 p.m. to 4:59 a.m. You must wear a face covering on public transportation, in closed public spaces and in outdoor public spaces where physical distancing is not possible.
- Czech Republic * GOV.AU * New restrictions have come into force. Avoid non-essential contact and movement. There’s a curfew from 9pm – 5am. Where it’s essential to go out, you can only be in the company of one other person. It is mandatory to wear face masks. Schools, restaurants and shops are closed, except essential services which will close at 8pm on weekdays and be closed on Sundays.
- France * GOV.UK * There has been a sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in France during recent weeks. The French government has announced a national lockdown from 00:01 on 30 October. As a result, you should remain at home unless you need to go out for an essential reason. You will need an attestation (or self-certificate) when you do go out. These are available on the Ministry of Interior website, and through France’s digital app ‘Tous anti-Covid.’
- Gabon * GOV.UK * From 30 October 2020, gatherings of more than 30 people are banned, however, parliament and educational institutions are exempt from this limit. All place of worship can only open one day a week, with effect from 30 October. Places of worship with a maximum of 30 people have to observe the ‘sanitary protocol’ which includes compulsory wearing of masks, hand sanitisation, and social distancing. Schools will re-open on 9 November 2020. Bars, beaches and places of worship remain closed.
- Germany * GOV.UK * From 2 November, there will be a range of restrictions on social contact in Germany, aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19: Individuals will only be able to gather with members of their own and one additional household up to 10 people. Beauty salons, tattoo salons, massage parlours are closed. Barbers and hairdressers remain open. Non-essential shops remain open, as long as there is at least 10m per between customers. Overnight stays in hotels etc. only when necessary and not for tourism. Theatres, operas, concert halls are closed. Trade fairs, cinemas, theme parks, gambling venues are closed. Amateur sport in private and public venues such as tracks, swimming pools, fitness studios is prohibited. Restaurants, bars, clubs, discos, pubs etc. are closed; food delivery and take-away is allowed. Employers are encouraged to allow employees to work from home where possible. Schools and nurseries remain open.
- Gibraltar * GOV.UK * The Government of Gibraltar announced on 23 October that bars and restaurants in Gibraltar have reduced opening hours. Last orders for alcoholic drinks is at 11pm, and restaurants must shut by 1am. Bars and pubs that do not have their own kitchen must stop serving drinks at 9pm and close by 10pm. Restaurants in the popular Chatham Counterguard area close earlier – last orders are at 10pm and premises must shut by midnight. It is also unlawful for a person to loiter, frequent or remain in this specific area between the hours of 11pm and 1am on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Additionally, the drinking of alcohol in unlicensed public places after 11pm is prohibited, and those who do so can be subject to a fixed penalty notice of £100. From 29 October it is required by law to wear masks on certain busy streets in Gibraltar, specifically: Main Street, John Macintosh Square, Irish Town, and Engineers Lane, Governor’s Street, Town Range, Casemates Square and the lanes connecting these. Those failing to wear a mask are subject to a fixed penalty notice of £100.
- Greece * GOV.UK * The Greek authorities are currently operating a system of 3 levels of categorisation (’Level A: Surveillance’; ‘Level B: Increased Risk’; Level C: Local lock-downs). Level A: Surveillance: Aitoloakarnania, Achaia, Andros, Argolida, Arkadia, Arta, Attica Islands, Cephalonia, Chania, Chios, Corfu (Kerkyra), Evia, Evrytania, Florina, Fokida, Fthiotida, Grevena, Heraklion, Ikaria, Ilia, Ithaki, Kalymnos, Karditsa, Karpathos, Kasos, Kea (Kythnos), Corinthia, Kos, Lakonia, Lasithi, Lesvos, Lefkas, Limnos, Messinia, Milos, Mykonos, Paros, Preveza, Rethymnon, Rhodes, Samos, Sporades Islands, Syros, Thassos, Thesprotia, Tinos, Zakynthos (Zante). Level B: Increased Risk: Attica, Chalkidiki, Drama, Evros, Imathia, Ioannina, Kastoria, Kavala, Kilkis, Kozani, Larissa, Magnisia, Naxos, Pella, Pieria, Rodopi, Santorini (Thira), Trikala, Viotia (Boeotia), Xanthi. Level C: Local lock-down: Thessaloniki and Serres regions.
- Latvia * GC.CA * Preventative measures and restrictions are in place. You must wear a face covering in all indoor public places, including shops, service points and public transportation. If you violate the restrictions, you could be fined for endangering public health.
- Latvia * GOV.UK * From 20 November 2020, the fine for not wearing a face mask when required is Euros 50.
- Lithuania * GOV.UK * If attending a public event (such as festivals and concerts), including free events, you will be required to register in advance. For outdoor events, you must keep a distance of at least 1 metre from other people, and at least 2 metres for indoor events.
- Lithuania * GOV.AU * Lithuania has adopted a traffic light system. Red zones have been declared in some areas. It’s compulsory to wear face masks and groups larger than 5 non-related people are banned in red zones. (see ‘Travel’). Before you travel to Lithuania, you have to register with the National Health Centre. Depending on the country you’re coming from, you may be required to self-isolate for 14 days (see ‘Travel’).
- Luxembourg * GOV.UK * In response to a sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Luxembourg, additional measures have been put in place to limit the spread of the virus. The Luxembourg government has introduced a curfew, and people are required to remain at home from11pm to 6am. Outings during these hours are only permitted in certain specified circumstances; these can be accessed with further details on the Luxembourg government website. Other restrictions include the ‘rule of four’, limiting the number of people allowed to gather at home or in bars and restaurants. Gatherings of 4 to 10 people in a public space are allowed, subject to wearing of a mask. With some exceptions, gatherings of 10 to 100 people are allowed on condition that people are assigned seating, observe 2 metre distancing and wear a mask. Eating and drinking is not allowed at gatherings of more than four people. To find out more about local restrictions, please refer to the Luxembourg government website.
- Malta * GOV.UK * Bars will be closed from 29 October until 1 December. Discos and nightclubs are closed. Boat parties are not allowed. Groups, in public places, are limited to 6 people. Masks are mandatory in all public spaces, indoor and outdoor (under 3s are exempt). Fines will be levied for non-compliance.
- Martinique * GC.CA * A nationwide lockdown is in effect from October 30 to December 1, 2020. This measure could be extended. You must stay inside your home or accommodations unless you need to perform essential activities. You must be in possession of an exemption certificate to justify any essential travel during this period. You must wear a mask in all outdoor and indoor public spaces. Additional measures and restrictions are in place and may vary depending on the department or city. If you violate the restrictions, you could be fined for endangering public health.
- Nigeria * GOV.UK * Some State Governments have implemented curfews, including Lagos, Edo and Ekiti. On 25 October the Lagos curfew was further relaxed, moves will now be allowed between 6am and 8pm local time. Additional curfews may be announced at short notice. You should monitor local media and follow the advice of the local authorities, and continue to exercise caution.
- North Macedonia * GOV.UK * Wearing of protective face coverings is required when visiting indoor public spaces, such as markets, post offices, health institutions, shops, banks, including when using public transport. Protective face coverings are also required outside, except in certain circumstance.
- North Macedonia * GOV.AU * You must wear a mask in public places in North Macedonia. Failure to comply may result in a fine. North Macedonia’s borders are open to Australian citizens and transits through North Macedonia are possible. Make sure you can enter the country you are transiting to. This information may change at short notice. Monitor local media for updates.
- Oman * GC.CA * Preventative measures and restrictions are in place. You must wear a face covering in public spaces. If you violate the restrictions, you could be fined or detained for endangering public health.
- Panama * GOV.UK * From 25 October, unless you are under 14-day quarantine or have Covid-19 symptoms, you can now leave your home/accommodation between the hours of 5am and 11 pm. A curfew is in place between 11pm and 5am. From 24 October, public beaches and rivers have been reopened to the public from 6:00am to 4:00pm.
- Peru * GOV.UK * On 15 March 2020, Peru announced a national State of Emergency, which has now been extended until 30 November 2020. There are several restrictions on the use of beaches. In Lima and Callao people will be able to access beaches from Monday to Thursday, while respecting social distance and wearing masks. From Friday to Sunday, access will only be for non-contact aquatic sports, e.g. surfing, sailing. Food and beverages will not be allowed on beaches, only water.
- Poland * GOV.AU * Poland is a ‘Red Zone’ for COVID-19 and tighter restrictions are in place. You must wear a face mask everywhere in public except in forests and parks. You’ll be fined for not wearing a mask. Minors under 16 must be in the company of an adult between 8am- 4pm. There is a ban on gatherings of more than five people.
- Portugal * GC.CA * Preventative measures and restrictions are in place. You must wear a face covering in public. From 12 a.m. on October 30, 2020, to 6 a.m. on November 3, 2020, it will be forbidden to travel outside of your municipality of residence unless you need to perform essential activities (continental Portugal only). If you violate the restrictions, you could be fined for endangering public health.
- Portugal * GOV.UK * From 30 October until 6am on 3 November, you will be required to restrict your movements to the municipality in which you are staying, unless you are an essential worker or you have an unavoidable reason to travel across municipal boundaries. In this case, you must carry a declaration from your employer and/or be able to justify your movements. From 28 October, you must also wear a face covering mask outdoors where it is not possible to maintain social distancing from people who are not in your family group.
- Romania * GOV.AU * There’s an ongoing State of Alert in Romania . Many airlines have suspended flights and some airports are still closed. It’s mandatory to wear face masks in indoor and outdoor public spaces, as well as on public transport, including for children over five years of age. Only Romanian and EU citizens, their family members and those with valid residency permits can enter Romania.
- Russia * GC.CA * Preventative measures and restrictions are in place and may vary depending on the region or city. You must wear a face covering in public spaces where physical distancing is not possible. In Moscow, you must wear a face covering and gloves on public transportation, in shops, health facilities and closed public spaces. If you violate the restrictions, you could be fined for endangering public health.
- Russia * GOV.AU * You must wear a face mask in public spaces, on public transport and in taxis, car parks and elevators. Some public events and entertainment may be banned between 11pm – 6am. Follow the advice of local authorities. If you’re arriving in Russia, including transiting, you’re required to provide a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test result dated within 72 hours before travel. If you’re travelling for work purposes, you may be required to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival. Commercial flights are now operating to and from Russia via a limited number of routes. Contact your airline or travel provider for information.
- Rwanda * GOV.UK * You are no longer required to have a valid COVID-19 test in order to attend social gatherings, meetings or conferences. However event organizers must comply with health guidelines and must not exceed 50% of venue capacity. The government continues to encourage the use of voluntary COVID-19 testing facilities.
- Slovakia * GOV.UK * From Saturday 24 October to at least Sunday 8 November, the authorities are restricting movement within Slovakia. A nationwide coronavirus testing programme is taking place during the weekend of 31 October to 1 November and applies also to UK nationals present in Slovakia.
- Slovenia * GOV.UK * Protective masks (or other material covering the nose and mouth) must be worn in all indoor and outdoor public areas, As of 27 October, the following measures are in place for all of Slovenia: A curfew is in place from 9pm to 6am every day. There are exceptions for access to essential services, protecting life, health and property and for travelling to/from work if you cannot work from home. Movement between municipalities (občina) is restricted, except in specific circumstances listed below. All non-essential shops and retail outlets are closed, including hairdressers, salons and fitness centres. Supermarkets and pharmacies remain open. All hotels are closed, with a few limited exemptions to allow for business/diplomatic stays or for professional sports teams. Guests already staying in a hotel on 24 October will be allowed to complete their stay. All restaurants and bars are closed. Takeaway services are permitted. All public and private gatherings are limited to six people (except where a household numbers more than six people). All larger gatherings (public and private) are prohibited. No visits to care homes or hospitals allowed. Suspension of all non-essential hospital or dental visits. Kindergartens are closed, with schools moving to remote teaching.
- Slovenia * GOV.AU * Slovenia declared a state of pandemic emergency for 30 days on 19 October. Travel to and within Slovenia is restricted. A curfew is in place from 9pm until 6am. Stay informed as restrictions can change at short notice. If you’re staying in Slovenia, follow the advice of local authorities.
- South Korea * GOV.UK * South Korea is currently at level 1 on its five-level national social distancing scale. Under this level facemasks are compulsory in most public places and on transport, and local authorities are able to impose their own restrictions in some circumstances.
- Spain * GOV.UK * On 25 October, the Spanish government declared a nationwide State of Emergency which includes a national obligatory overnight curfew (specific curfew times vary, starting between 10pm and midnight and lasting until 6am). It also provides regional governments with legal powers to impose further mobility restrictions in their region if deemed necessary (e.g. entry and exit restrictions to and from specific areas). The Canary Islands are currently exempt from the curfew due to the latest epidemiological data. These measures are expected to be in place for an initial period of at least 15 days.
- Spain * GOV.AU * Spain has declared a new State of Alarm. New COVID−19 control measures are in place throughout the country (except for the Canary Islands) and include nightly curfews and a restriction on the number of people in social gatherings to six. Regional authorities have some restrictions on movement, however, international travel to and from Spain is still possible. Further restrictions may be announced at short notice. Social distancing and other health-related measures, including the use of facemasks and the closure of restaurants and bars, vary by region. You may be fined if you don’t comply with these measures. Follow the advice of local authorities.
- Sri Lanka * GC.CA * Preventative measures, including curfews and inter-province travel restrictions, are in place. These measures may differ from region to region and change without notice. If you violate preventative measures, you could face serious criminal charges or imprisonment for endangering public health.
- Sri Lanka * GOV.UK * A quarantine curfew currently in place in the Western Province, including Colombo, has been extended until Monday 9 November. Some food outlets and pharmacies may be open for essential items only. Some categories of workers will be permitted to travel for essential business in line with government guidelines.
- Sri Lanka * GOV.UK * Further lockdowns and quarantine curfews are being imposed in affected areas across a wide geographic spread, and travel restrictions may also be imposed at short notice. Those not adhering to restrictions risk arrest. You should follow the advice of local authorities. Some public places, including restaurants and cafés remain open in areas which are not under quarantine curfew, but this could change at short notice. You should expect some reduced services and social distancing measures to be in place. Public gatherings such as exhibitions, conferences, parties, indoor and outdoor events, carnivals, musical shows and processions have been banned.
- Sweden * GOV.UK * The Swedish government is not restricting domestic travel. However, there are temporary domestic recommendations in some regions. These recommendations include avoiding public transport and crowded areas. Public gatherings are also limited to 50 people in these areas. Check local guidance for more information. Individuals without symptoms are urged to continue to follow the Public Health Agency’s advice and restrictions related to coronavirus.
- Sweden * GOV.AU * Several regions across Sweden have introduced stricter restrictions to respond to local outbreaks of COVID-19. Check the advice of the regional and local health authorities, as well as the national Public Health Agency. Sweden is allowing entry to residents of several countries.
- Thailand * GOV.UK * An emergency decree is in place until 30 November 2020. A number of measures are in place, including instructions that you must not: enter high risk areas, hoard essential goods, attend public gatherings, propagate false information. Further measures may be introduced at any time. You should follow the advice of the Thai authorities.
- Tonga * GOV.UK * The Kingdom of Tonga has published a Repatriation Restrictions Directions informing members of the public that they are prohibited from entering the Tanoa Dateline International Hotel and surrounding area and the Makeke Camp facility until midnight on Wednesday 18 November 2020. You should follow the guidance and familiarise yourself with the restricted areas.
- Tunisia * GC.CA * Several preventative measures and restrictions are in place. A daily curfew is in effect: Monday – Friday: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday and Sunday: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. You must wear a face covering on public transportation and in closed public spaces. Additional measures may be adopted at any time. Follow the instructions of local authorities, including those related to physical distancing.
- Tunisia * GOV.UK * On 28 October the Tunisian authorities introduced new COVID-19 measures due to the detection of infection clusters. These measures include a national curfew and travel restrictions. If you’re planning travel to Tunisia, find out what you need to know about coronavirus there in the Coronavirus section.
- United States of America * GOV.AU *COVID-19 remains a serious health risk. Various restrictions and public health measures are in place and vary by location. Follow the instructions of local authorities, including those related to quarantine, self-isolation, social-distancing and the wearing of masks.
Travel Restrictions
- Andorra * GOV.UK * In order to travel from Andorra via Spain, where travel restrictions in the Region of Catalonia are in place from 10pm until 6am, you will need to complete a travel certificate online. You can find further details, including the limited exceptions to curfew in the Spanish Region of Catalonia, online.
- Anguilla * GOV.UK * Anguilla’s ports, sea and air are closed for all regular inbound passenger movements until at least Saturday 12 December. This date is kept under constant review and may be extended. Commercial outbound flights are permitted.
- Antigua and Barbuda * GOV.UK * All Marine Pleasure Craft and Ferry Services entering the waters of Antigua and Barbuda should contact the Antigua Port Authority, using VHF Channel 16, at least six (6) hours prior to arrival. Instructions will be given to guide the crafts to either the Nevis Street Pier or English Harbour Ports or to a holding area.
- Argentina * GOV.UK * With effect from 30 October nationals and residents of neighbouring countries can enter Argentina to visit the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires for tourism purposes. Entry will only be allowed through the Port of Buenos Aires (Buquebus Terminal) and through Ezeiza International Airport in the Province of Buenos Aires. Those who qualify will have to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to boarding and have medical insurance with comprehensive cover for coronavirus. - Argentina * GOV.UK * British Airways has flights which have been approved from Buenos Aires to London every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday in November. To book, visit the BA’s website.
- Austria * GOV.UK * If you have travelled in the 10 days before you arrive in Austria to a country or region for which the Austrian government has a travel warning, you must present on arrival a medical certificate not more than 72 hours old, confirming a negative test for COVID-19. If you cannot present a negative test result, you must isolate for 10 days upon arrival, and take a coronavirus test within 48 hours at your own cost. You can end self-isolation early with a negative test result.
- Bahamas * GC.CA * The Bahamas has implemented special entry requirements for its territory. We have obtained the information below from Bahamian authorities. This information may change at any time. It is your responsibility to verify this information with the appropriate foreign diplomatic office and to ask if you will be allowed entry, based on your individual circumstances and itinerary. The information provided is based on travel from Canada. Keep in mind that your transit points could affect your ability to enter the country. Foreign diplomatic offices in Canada – Global Affairs Canada. Travellers arriving from Canada can be allowed entry if they meet the requirements below. Quarantine. You must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival and provide your accommodations details to local authorities. PCR tests, serological tests, health certificates. You must present a negative PCR test result taken less than 5 days before your arrival to local authorities. Special authorization form. You must fill out a health visa application online before your arrival. Travel Health Card – Government of The Bahamas. Local authorities may impose additional requirements without notice and your travel plans could be severely disrupted. You should not depend on the Government of Canada for assistance related to changes to your travel plans. Monitor the media for the latest information.
- Belarus * GC.CA * Entry though land borders with Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine might be suspended or restricted without notice. Before you travel, confirm the status of the border checkpoints.
- Belarus * GOV.UK * On 29 October, the government of Belarus closed the land borders between Belarus and Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine for all foreign citizens. Flights continue to operate into and out of Minsk National Airport as normal.
- Belgium * GC.CA * Residents of Canada are not allowed entry to Belgium. However, certain travellers may be allowed entry if they can prove the essential nature of their travel. It is your responsibility to verify this information with the appropriate foreign diplomatic office and to ask if you may be allowed entry, based on your individual circumstances and your itinerary. Local authorities may impose additional requirements without notice and your travel plans could be severely disrupted. You should not depend on the Government of Canada for assistance related to changes to your travel plans.
- Bosnia and Herzegovina * GOV.AU * The consulate in Sarajevo is open. Restrictions are in place for entry into Bosnia and Herzegovina. These may change at short notice. - Brazil * GOV.UK * As of 3rd November 2020, the Brazilian government will resume counting the length of stay of foreign visitors. Any time spent in Brazil between the period of 16 March 2020 to 3 November 2020 will not be included when counting the visitor’s length of stay. - Bulgaria * GOV.UK * If you test positive for COVID-19, you will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. Additionally, from 23 October 2020, there is a mandatory 10-day self-isolation requirement for anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. The isolation period starts from the date of the last contact with the infected person.
- Bulgaria * GOV.AU * There’s an Emergency Epidemic situation in Bulgaria until at least the end of November. If you’re travelling from a country with a higher COVID-19 risk, you may be denied entry to Bulgaria. Depending on your country of departure, you may be subject to quarantine measures and may need to present a negative COVID-19 test (PCR) taken no more than 72 hours before you travel (see Travel). If you transit through Bulgaria, you’ll be required to complete a declaration on arrival that you’re COVID-19 free, you aren’t under quarantine and you’ll follow Bulgarian health measures. You must wear a mask in all indoor public spaces, except in restaurants. Wearing a mask outdoors is highly recommended.
- Chad * GOV.UK * If you enter Chad and are planning to stay for 7 days or more, you will need to surrender your passport, quarantine at home for 7 days and take a COVID-19 test on the seventh day. Passports will be returned upon presentation of the COVID-19 test receipt. If you are staying in Chad for less than 7 days you will not be required to quarantine.

- Croatia * GOV.AU * Travel to Croatia is restricted for non-EU nationals due to COVID-19. Some exemptions may apply. If you’re allowed to enter Croatia, you’ll need to self-isolate for 14 days, or present a negative COVID-19 test (PCR) taken within 48 hours of your arrival. - Czech Republic * GOV.UK * From 22 October, you are only allowed to enter the Czech Republic for essential purposes, such as business, essential family visits or to attend a funeral or wedding. Entry for tourism is not permitted. Border controls have not been reintroduced, but you may be asked to prove that the purpose of your visit is essential. Hotels and accommodation providers are not permitted to provide accommodation to tourists. You should check your hotel is still able to provide you with accommodation before travelling to the Czech Republic.
- Denmark * GOV.AU * Denmark has border restrictions in place and you can’t enter unless you’re travelling from certain countries or have a worthy purpose. Large gatherings are banned. You must wear a mask in indoor public places, including airports and on public transport. Expect travel disruptions. - India * GOV.UK * The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has issued new guidelines permitting all OCI and PIO card holders to visit India. All other foreign nationals intending to visit India may visit on any visa except for a Tourist Visa, which still has not been re-instated. - Ireland * GOV.UK * Ireland is implementing the new EU ‘traffic lights’ approach to travel, which applies to countries in the EU / EEA. A combined indicator map will be published each week by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). There will be no entry restrictions on passengers travelling from green regions. For all others, including arrivals from Great Britain: All arrivals, including Irish residents, are asked to restrict their movement for 14 days on arrival. Arrivals from Northern Ireland are exempt. All arrivals, including Irish residents, arriving from overseas must complete a Public Health Passenger Locator Form prior to arriving in Ireland. The form may be used by health authorities to contact you in order to verify your location in the country.

- Japan * GOV.UK * British nationals with Status of Residence in Japan who leave Japan for short-term business travel only will be exempted from self-isolation requirements on return, provided they meet certain conditions. These include the length of time overseas being 7 days or less (plus any additional quarantine time required by host governments); avoiding public transport for 14 days on return; and keeping track of their schedule of activities in Japan. You will also need to be sponsored by a company or organisation that can commit to conducting health follow ups.
- Jordan * GOV.UK * Four land borders: Sheikh Hussein Bridge, Al Mudawwarah, King Hussein Bridge and Al Omari will be partially reopened from Thursday 29 October. There will be restrictions on the number of travellers limited between 100 and 150 from each of the four border crossings each day.
- Kazakhstan * GOV.UK * A visa is required to enter Kazakhstan. This is a recent change, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
- Madagascar * GOV.AU * Madagascar has lifted the Health State of Emergency. Domestic flights and ground transport have resumed, as well as limited commercial international flights to and from Nosy Be. Flights to neighbouring Indian Ocean countries and islands (Seychelles, Comoros, Mauritius, La Réunion) remain suspended. Wear a face mask and follow social distancing measures. Regions are responsible for implementing local measures, and these measures may change with little notice.
- Malaysia * GOV.AU * You’re not allowed to travel to Malaysia as a tourist. If you’re permitted to enter Malaysia, you’ll need a ‘Letter of Undertaking and Indemnity’ approved by your nearest Malaysian diplomatic mission and you must undertake mandatory 14 day quarantine at your own cost (see ‘Travel’). A Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is in place for a number of districts within Malaysia, including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Nilai and the whole of Sabah. Additional entry restrictions are in place for Sabah and Sarawak.
- Malta * GOV.AU * Malta has restricted visitors entering, unless you’ve travelled from an approved (‘green’) area and have stayed there for 2 weeks before entering. Travellers from areas on the ‘amber’ list will need to provide a negative COVID-19 test (PCR) performed within 72 hours prior to arriving. You may be granted an exemption if you’re not from an approved area and your travel is for essential purposes. In those cases, other restrictions will apply. You must wear face masks or visors at all times in public spaces, both indoor and outdoor. No more than 6 people can gather in groups in public spaces. You may be fined for not wearing a mask or gathering in larger groups.

- Mozambique * GOV.UK * Entry to Mozambique is allowed to all travellers with a valid tourist or residency visa. It is not possible to obtain a visa on arrival in Mozambique. You will need proof of a valid negative COVID-19 test, issued within 72 hours of your arrival. Children under 11 years old are exempt from the requirement to present a COVID-19 PCR test. If you have been in direct contact with someone who has COVID-19, you will be required to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival.
- Mozambique * GOV.UK * Entry to Mozambique is allowed to all travellers with a valid tourist or residency visa. It is not possible to obtain a visa on arrival in Mozambique.
- Myanmar (Burma) * GOV.UK * The government of Myanmar has suspended all international commercial passenger flights until 30 November and all land borders are shut.
- Paraguay * GC.CA * Although the land border with Brazil is open, the land borders with Bolivia and Argentina remain closed until further notice.
- Peru * GOV.AU * Peru has resumed a limited number of international flights. To enter Peru, you’ll need to carry a proof of negative COVID-19 (PCR) test result and a health affidavit form, both conducted within 72 hours of boarding your flight. You’ll also need to wear a face mask and a face shield at all Peruvian airports. A nationwide curfew and lockdown measures are in place. Follow the advice of local authorities and monitor media for the latest updates.
- San Marino * GOV.UK * There are no longer any COVID-19 related restrictions on entry into San Marino, although all visitors must comply with social distancing and sanitisation regulations. You will also be required to wear a face mask on public transport, and in public spaces (including outdoors) where social distancing is not possible. Food and drink can only be consumed when seated in restaurants and bars.
- Singapore * GOV.AU * You may now enter Singapore for short-term visits if you travel from Australia. However, you can’t leave Australia unless you seek an exemption from Home Affairs. If you’re a long-term resident you still need to get approval to enter Singapore. You can transit Changi Airport if you’re travelling between Australian cities and certain locations in Asia, Europe and New Zealand provided you’re on Singapore Airlines, Silk Air or Scoot Airlines and connecting with the same airline. You can’t transit on flights operated by other airlines, including codeshare flights. Transit and flight options to/from Singapore change frequently. - Spain * GOV.UK * The French government has implemented additional entry requirements for those travelling to and transiting through France. If you are planning to drive from Spain through France, check the latest FCDO travel advice for France ahead of your journey.
- Sri Lanka * GOV.UK * On 27 October, the government announced a 60 day visa extension (until 5 December) for all foreigners currently in Sri Lanka. The procedure for extension has not been confirmed, however passengers leaving the country during this period can pay the relevant fee at the airport without penalty.
- St Kitts and Nevis * GOV.UK * The borders of St Kitts and Nevis open to all non-citizens and non-residents from 31 October. Travellers arriving from the UK will need to complete an entry form on the national website and submit a negative PCR test completed within 72 hours of travel from an accredited laboratory. On arrival, travellers will undergo a health screening. There are restrictions in place for the first 14 days of any visit. Travellers will be required to download the St Kitts and Nevis contact tracing mobile app and must stay in approved hotels. Travellers must also undergo PCR tests on days 7 and 14 of the visit at their own expense. Full details are on the St Kitts Travel Advisory website, which should be checked regularly. - Suriname * GOV.UK * KLM and Suriname Airways operate limited services to the Netherlands and USA. You should check their websites for further information, including the requirements for a COVID-19 PCR test, which may be required prior to boarding.
- Sweden * GC.CA * As of November 2, 2020, travellers residing in Canada are not allowed entry to Sweden. However, in limited circumstances, some travellers may be allowed to enter Sweden if they meet specific criteria. It is your responsibility to verify this information with the appropriate foreign diplomatic office and to ask if you may be allowed entry, based on your individual circumstances and your itinerary. - Sweden * GOV.UK * Like other EU countries, Sweden has banned entry to non-EU and non-EEA citizens arriving from outside of the EU until at least 22 December 2020. British nationals are not affected by this ban.
- Switzerland * GOV.UK * Travellers from the UK who do not have UK/EU/EFTA nationality are not permitted to enter Switzerland. However, there are limited exceptions. From 29 October, travellers who have visited the UK in the past 10 days will no longer be required to quarantine for 10 days on entry to Switzerland.
- Switzerland * GOV.AU * Switzerland permits entry from the Schengen area and directly from other specified countries. Depending on where you’re coming from, you may need to quarantine in your accommodation for 10 days. Strict hygiene and social distancing rules are in place, including the mandatory wearing of masks in all indoor and and outdoor areas accessible to the public. Restrictions apply to numbers of people attending public and private events. Working from home is recommended. There may be additional requirements that apply to you depending on the canton you’re in (see ‘Travel’).
- Thailand * GOV.UK * The visa amnesty will expire on 31 October 2020. As of 1 November, you will need a valid visa to stay in Thailand. If you do not have a valid visa you will be subject to overstay penalties. You should speak to your local Immigration Office or visit the Thai Immigration website.
- Tonga * GOV.UK * A State of Emergency was declared on 20 March by the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga. This has been renewed until 8pm on Monday 23 November 2020. Tongan borders are closed for entry to all foreign nationals, except if authorisation has been granted by the relevant Tongan Government authority.
- Trinidad and Tobago * GOV.UK * On 24 October, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago reviewed a number of lock down measures, which had been introduced in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases and community spread. The Trinidad and Tobago government has closed its borders to all international flights indefinitely. Sea borders are also closed indefinitely to all vessels including yachts.
- Tunisia * GOV.AU * If you’re arriving in Tunisia, you’ll need proof of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours before departure and no later than 120 hours before you arrive. Other restrictions apply (see ‘Travel’). Wear a face mask in public and in workplaces. There’s a ban on inter-regional travel and public gatherings of more than four people. Expect localised lockdowns and a night-time curfew. Follow the advice of local authorities.
- United Arab Emirates * GOV.UK * All travellers to the UAE must have carried out a COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test within 96 hours and received a negative result prior to their departure (there are exemptions for Emirati citizens). Depending on your port of entry, you may also need to undertake a second test on arrival, to wear a government-provided wristband and to complete a period of self-isolation or quarantine
- Vanuatu * GOV.UK * Commercial flights to and from Vanuatu are very limited. Air Vanuatu are running a small number of cargo services with some seats for passengers, to Brisbane, Auckland and Noumea. For travellers wishing to leave Vanuatu, the final outbound flight in 2020 will be a service to Brisbane, departing on 19 December. Air Vanuatu advise they will then re-open for bookings in January, with the first flight with passenger availability scheduled to depart for Auckland on Wednesday 13 January.
