This report intends to give the UTD Community a snapshot of international risks, and other issues as reported by the linked media and official sources from the U.S. and other countries. 

More health and security information for each country can be found in the travel advisories issued by the governments of the United States, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, and the CDC, ECDC, and WHO sites. Not all advise in these sites will apply to US travelers.

Security 

• Thirty-five Palestinians killed in Gaza, Israel issues new evacuation orders (Reuters) – Israeli forces issued new evacuation orders in the north of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday and carried out military strikes which Palestinian medics and media said had killed at least 35 people since Monday night. An airstrike late on Monday damaged two houses in the town of Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, killing at least 20 people, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA and Hamas media said.  
• Iran says two French detainees held in good conditions (Reuters) – Two French citizens detained in Iran since May 2022 are in good health and being held in good detention conditions, Iran’s judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said on Tuesday, according to state media. 
• Nigeria’s president orders the release of 29 children facing death penalty over protests (AP News) – Under growing pressure from activists, Tinubu also directed an investigation of the law enforcement agents involved in the arrest and prosecution of the minors, Nigeria’s Information Minister Mohammed Idris told reporters in the capital, Abuja. They are not expected to be released until Tuesday through a court order. 
• Two Chinese nationals shot and wounded in Pakistan (Reuters) – Two Chinese nationals were wounded on Tuesday by a security guard who opened fire at a garment factory in Pakistan’s commercial hub Karachi, in the latest in a string of attacks that have spurred Beijing to demand better security for its citizens. Large contingents of police were deployed at the site of the factory in Karachi’s industrial area, and forensic teams could be seen entering the premises, which had been cordoned off. 
• Mexico’s National Guard kills 2 Colombians and wounds 4 on a migrant smuggling route near the US (AP News) – Colombia’s foreign ministry said in a statement Sunday that all of the victims were migrants who had been “caught in the crossfire.” It identified the dead as a 20-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, and gave the number of Colombians wounded as five, not four. There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy. 
• Chad threatens to withdraw from multinational security force (Reuters) Chad’s interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby has threatened to withdraw the Central African country from a multinational security force, which he said had failed in its task of tackling insurgent groups in the Lake Chad region. 

Demonstrations 

• Thousands rally again in Georgia to protest parliamentary election saying were rigged (AP News) – The protesters, who waved Georgian and European Union flags, demanded a new parliamentary election under international supervision and an investigation of alleged ballot irregularity. Opposition leaders vowed to boycott sessions of parliament and hold regular protests until their demands are met. 

Environment 

• Indonesia – Volcanic eruption, update (ERCC) – The activity of Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano, East Flores regency, East Nusa Tenggara province is still ongoing following minor volcanic explosions and volcanic earthquakes. The death toll stands at ten, while 66 people have been injured. Additionally, 2,472 people have been displaced and evacuated in three evacuation centres in the Konga, Lewolaga, and Tietehena villages. 

Health 

• Gaza: Polio campaign reaches 94,000 children in besieged north (UN News) – The UN-supported polio vaccine campaign concluded in besieged northern Gaza on Monday, with agencies inoculating 94,000 children, but thousands still remain out of reach. 
• Toxic smog over India’s capital Delhi – More stations turn severe (TOI News) – The city’s average AQI was 373 at noon and worsened to 386 by 6pm. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Delhi Government and police seeking an explanation for the non-compliance with its fire-cracker ban order during the Diwali.
