December 10, 2024
UK opens pre-travel requirement to non-Europeans, November 27, 2024
The UK government is introducing electronic travel authorisation (ETA) for millions of visitors who pass through the UK border every year, including 6 million from the USA, Canada, and Australia. From today all eligible non-European visitors can apply for an ETA and will need one to travel to the UK from 8 January 2025.
Eligible visitors should apply for their ETA through the UK ETA app, which is quick and simple to use and enables most applicants to receive a decision in hours. Visitors can also apply on GOV.UK if they do not have access to a smartphone.
UK Government Transition to a Digital Border (eVisa and ETA), November 21, 2024
The UK launched an ETA system, which is being rolled out incrementally and aimed at visitors who do not need a visa for short stays in the UK, or those who do not already have a UK immigration status prior to traveling. More information on the ETA program is available at Guidance on ETA. Effective January 8, 2025, all U.S. citizens transiting the UK or traveling to the UK for tourism, family visits, business meetings, conferences, or short-term study for 6 months or less will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to travel. U.S. citizens can apply for ETAs as of 27 November 2024.
