This report intends to give the UTD Community a snapshot of international risks, and other issues as reported by the linked media and official sources from the U.S. and other countries.
More health and security information for each country can be found in the travel advisories issued by the governments of the United States, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, and the CDC, ECDC, and WHO sites. Not all advise in these sites will apply to US travelers.

Security
- Myanmar – Airstrike (ERCC) – A Myanmar military airstrike in Tabayin Township, Sagaing region on 12 May has reportedly killed at least 20 children and injured more than 50. As many bodies have not yet been retrieved, the number of casualties is expected to rise. The airstrike targeted a middle school located in an area under rebel control. Nearby medical centres are reportedly overwhelmed due to the large number of injured.
- Libya armed group leader among dead in Tripoli clashes (ARAB News) – Six bodies have been retrieved from the sites of clashes around Abu Salim in Tripoli.
Environment
- Thailand – Floods (ERCC) – As of 10 May, one person was reported missing in Nakhon Ratchasima province. A total of 1,244 people were affected, and 204 houses were damaged in the central provinces of Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun, as well as the eastern provinces of Kalasin, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Sa Kaeo.
- Somalia – Floods (ERCC) – According to UNHCR and media reports, seven people have died and ten others have been injured. Additionally, 2,688 individuals have been affected and displaced across the districts of Kahda and Daynile. Nine houses have been destroyed, and approximately 200 houses have been damaged in various areas of Mogadishu.
- Haiti – Floods (ERCC) – As of 9 May, more than 3,000 families have been affected, and nearly 4,000 houses were flooded across the municipalities of Ouanaminthe (3,200 houses) and Ferrier (700 houses). In addition, the floods caused damage to property and to National Road 6. Some food crops have been destroyed, and losses of livestock have also been reported.
Humanitarian
- Gaza: 57 children reported dead from malnutrition (UN News) – In the aid desert of Gaza, malnourished children are dying while survivors can now expect a lifetime of dire health problems, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday. Since the aid blockade began on 2 March, 57 children have reportedly died from the effects of malnutrition, according to the Ministry of Health.
