World Status Report

This report intends to give the UTD Community a snapshot of international risks, and other issues as reported by the linked media and official sources from the U.S. and other countries. 

More health and security information for each country can be found in the travel advisories issued by the governments of the United States, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, and the CDC, ECDC, and WHO sites. Not all advise in these sites will apply to US travelers. 

Security 

Environment 

  • Philippines – Flooding in Mindanao (ERCC) – On 20 May 2025, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 38,689 families (192,005 persons) affected. 
  • China – Floods and landslides (ERCC) – As of 21 May, six fatalities, of whom three were in the Guangxi province, in the Baise city area due to floods, and three more were in the Guangdong province, in the Gaozhou city area due to a landslide event. 
  • India – Severe weather (ERCC) – As of 21 May, five people were killed due to rain-related incidents and lightning. Around 500 buildings were flooded, and power outages and public transport disruptions were reported, as were uprooted trees and killed livestock. 
  • Indonesia – Floods (ERCC) – As of 21 May, 105 evacuated people in two evacuation centres across the Karawang regency, West Java province and the neighbouring Demak regency, Central Java province. In addition, ADINet also reports a total of nearly 12,900 affected people and around 3,200 affected houses across both the aforementioned regencies. 
  • Argentina – Floods (ERCC) – As of 19 May, one person has died, four people are missing, and 500 have been injured. A total of 4,090 people have been displaced, with an undetermined number of people requiring evacuation, and a total of 25,000 people have been affected. At least 28 municipalities or departments have reported some type of damage, while access to some cities has been cut off. 
  • Flash floods cut off inland Australian towns, residents flee to rooftops (Reuters) – Heavy rain in Australia’s southeast triggered flash flooding and cut off entire towns on Wednesday, stranding some residents on the roofs of their homes, as authorities issued snap evacuation orders with rivers staying above danger levels.
