This report intends to give the UTD Community a snapshot of international risks, and other issues as reported by the linked media and official sources from the U.S. and other countries.

Security
- Nigeria – Increased violence in the Northcentral (ERCC) – Between 21 and 25 May 2025, multiple incidents of farmer-herder clashes occurred across seven communities in the Benue State resulting in the death of 24 people (over 40 people according to press) and 170 injured, and affecting over 5,300 individuals, of which half of them are children. Rapid needs assessments identified security, health, food, non-food items (NFI) and psychosocial support most prevalent, as well as water, sanitation and hygiene.
- Eleven bodies found in beached boat in Eastern Caribbean (Reuters) – Police in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday said they found a boat beached on the shore of Canouan island carrying the remains of what they believed to be 11 people who may be from Mali, though investigations into their identities are ongoing.
- Israel attacks Yemen’s Sanaa airport; Houthis say won’t deter Gaza support (AlJazeera) – Israel says it has launched air strikes on Yemen’s main airport in the capital, Sanaa, a day after Yemen’s Houthi rebels fired two projectiles towards Israel. The Houthi-affiliated news outlet Al Masirah TV reported on Wednesday that four strikes hit the runway.
Infrastructure
- Residents fear for safety after deadly blast at China chemical plant (Reuters) – Black smoke hung over a chemical plant in eastern China on Wednesday, a day after a massive blast killed at least five people, flattened buildings and fuelled safety fears among residents living close to the factory. Six people are still missing after the explosion at the plant in Gaomi, a city in the eastern province of Shandong, the official Xinhua news agency said. Another 19 were injured.
Environment
- Indonesia – Floods (ERCC) – According to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), two people remain missing, one person was injured, and approximately 1,400 people have been affected. In addition, 50 houses were damaged.
- Argentina – Severe weather and floods (ERCC) – As of 28 May, media reports one fatality and 23 injured people due to a flood-related incident, and 120 displaced people across three evacuation centres in Vera city of the southern Vera department. In addition, several classes have been suspended in the province.
- India – Severe weather (ERCC) – As of 27 May, a total of 11 people died due to severe weather-related incidents, including four in Kerala, three in Karnataka (western India), two in Himachal Pradesh, and two in Uttarakhand (northern India). In addition, 121 people have been displaced in six evacuation centres in Kerala, and a total of 662 houses have been damaged across the country.
Health
- A new cholera outbreak in Sudan has killed over 170 people in a week, officials say (AP), and sickened more than 2,500 over the past week, authorities said Tuesday as a leading medical group warned that the country’s existing health facilities were unable to cope with the surge of patients. The bulk of the cases were reported in the capital, Khartoum, and its twin city of Omdurman, but cholera was also detected in the provinces of North Kordofan, Sennar, Gazira, White Nile and Nile River, health officials said.
Humanitarian
- UN aid teams plead for access amid reports Gazans shot collecting food (UN News) – In Gaza, dozens of Palestinians have been reportedly injured and shot trying to collect aid from the new US and Israeli-backed aid distribution facility operating independently of the UN.
