World Status Report

June 3, 2025

This report intends to give the UTD Community a snapshot of international risks, and other issues as reported by the linked media and official sources from the U.S. and other countries. 

More health and security information for each country can be found in the travel advisories issued by the governments of the United States, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, and the CDC, ECDC, and WHO sites. Not all advise in these sites will apply to US travelers. 

Security 

Demonstrations 

  • 2 dead, hundreds arrested in France in Champions League celebrations (Politico) – The ministry said 192 people were injured in overnight violence and more than 550 people arrested, including 490 in Paris. In the southwest town of Dax, a 17-year-old boy died after being stabbed in the chest late on Saturday evening, local media reported. A 23-year-old man who was riding a scooter in central Paris was killed after being hit by a vehicle, the prosecutor’s office said. 

Environment 

  • India – Floods (ERCC) – Media reported at least 34 casualties as of 2 June. Thousands of people have been evacuated and are currently housed in relief camps, with armed forces and disaster response teams deployed in the worst-affected areas to provide aid and assistance. 
  • Nigeria – Floods (ERCC) – Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall between 29 and 30 May have caused severe suffering and destruction in Mokwa, a market town located in the north-central Niger State. Provisional information indicate that more than 150 people have been killed and over 200 people have been injured. More than 500 houses have been submerged, displacing over 3,000 people.
