This report intends to give the UTD Community a snapshot of international risks, and other issues as reported by the linked media and official sources from the U.S. and other countries.

Security
- 2 people die before a suspected explosive attack in Uganda’s capital (AP News) – The deceased were a man and a woman on a passenger motorcycle. The female passenger appeared to explode as a group of security forces tracking the duo drew near the suspects, police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke said. Rusoke did not provide more details and said an investigation is underway.
- Israel intercepts Yemen missile, Houthi rebels claim attack (Arab News) – The Israeli army said it intercepted a missile launched Monday from Yemen, whose Houthi rebels claimed an attack targeting Israel’s main airport.
- UN aid trucks come under attack in Sudan (BBC) – United Nations trucks carrying aid for the war-torn Sudanese region of North Darfur have been attacked, with initial reports of “multiple casualties”, a spokesperson for the organization has said.
- Rwanda-backed rebels in Congo executed civilians (Reuters) – Rwanda-backed M23 rebels in Democratic Republic of Congo executed at least 21 civilians over two days in February in the eastern city of Goma, Human Rights Watch said in a report published on Tuesday. The report covers incidents on February 22-23 in a Goma neighborhood, offering a snapshot of the violence during the latest escalation of the decades-long conflict.
Environment
- Bangladesh – Floods and landslides (ERCC) – Media reports, one person was killed, 11 were injured by lightning, and over 1,400 homes were damaged across 33 refugee camps. Communal spaces have been converted into temporary shelters for affected families.
- Iran – Dust storm (ERCC) – As of 2 June, at least 1,544 people have been injured, and several roads have been closed in the most affected cities Zabol, Zahak, Hamoon, Hirmand, and Nimroz.
- India – Severe weather and floods (ERCC) – Media reported 21 deaths in the past 24 hours, including seven in Kerala, four in Himachal Pradesh, and three in Sikkim, bringing the total death toll to 36. So far, 3,082,302 have been affected across the country. The Government of Assam has reported that 31,212 people are staying in relief camps, while approximately 154,000 individuals receiving assistance in relief distribution centers.
Health
- US measles total nears 1,100 cases as Colorado reports airline cluster (CIDRAP) – Some of the latest cases are tied to a large outbreak centered in West Texas, while others are linked to instances of community transmission or travel to other states or countries.
- Africa CDC convenes emergency committee to tackle cholera outbreaks (CIDRAP) – Cholera cases in Africa have risen sharply this year, with illnesses on track to pass totals recorded in 2023 and 2024.
