- 04/09/2015 As chaos deepens in Yemen, UN expert warns of ‘worst case scenario’ displacement. Over the last two weeks of increased fighting, more than 540 people have been killed, of which 311 are civilians, including 77 children, according to UN humanitarian agencies. At least 513 civilians have been injured, and more than 100,000 have been displaced.
- 04/08/2015 Stronger measures urged to protect people from toxic waste in Kazakhstan. The Central Asian country is known for pollution attributed to the oil and gas industry, metal extraction and processing, uranium and coal production and industrial emission of wastes. Baskut Tuncak, a UN independent expert dealing with human rights and hazardous substances and wastes, said that residents of contaminated areas are struggling everyday with the air they breathe, the water they drink and the food they eat.
