Take Enhanced Precautions

CDC

• Malaria in South Africa.  Cases of malaria have been reported in parts of three provinces in South Africa where transmission of the disease does not usually occur.  Read the full notice for recommendations from the CDC.
• Yellow Fever in Brazil.  The Brazilian Ministry of Health has reported an ongoing outbreak of yellow fever starting in December 2016. In response to this outbreak, health authorities have recently expanded the list of areas in which yellow fever vaccination is recommended for travelers.
• Prepare for Spring Weather. Spring weather can be unpredictable. Reduce injury risk and plan ahead.

WHO

• Measles outbreaks in Europe.  Over 500 measles cases were reported for January 2017 in the WHO European Region. Measles continues to spread within and among European countries, with the potential to cause large outbreaks wherever immunization coverage has dropped below the necessary threshold of 95%.

U.S. Department of State

• Turkey Travel Warning. U.S. citizens are warned of increased threats from terrorist groups in Turkey. Carefully consider the need to travel to Turkey at this time, and avoid travel to southeast Turkey due to the persistent threat of terrorism.
• French Guiana Travel Alert. The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens to widespread protests throughout French Guiana and along the roads leading to the neighboring countries of Suriname and Brazil.
• Peru Travel Alert. The State Department alerts U.S. citizens to the torrential rainfall that has triggered flooding and landslides in selected regions of Peru. Peru’s meteorology service expects heavy rains to continue through the end of March and into April.

Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System

• Peru – floods. Currently 11 of the 24 regions in Peru and the one constitutional province Callao have been declared in a state of emergency (Ancash, Callao, Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Ica, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Loreto, Piura and Tumbes)
