100917 – Turkey suspension of visa services to U.S. citizens

The government of Turkey announced the immediate suspension of visa services to U.S. citizens, effective October 8, 2017. According to the government’s announcement, this includes the issuance of physical “sticker” visas at border posts, and the online Turkish electronic visa (e-visa).
If planning to visit Turkey
- Contact your airline, and the nearest Turkish embassy for further clarification on individual cases.
- Reconfirm any scheduled appointments at relevant diplomatic facilities
- Monitor alerts from ISOS, Messages from the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Turkey, and Announcements from theTurkish Embassy in Washington, D.C.
If already in or passing through Turkey
- Based on statements from the Turkish government, there is no impact on US citizens currently in Turkey.
- In addition, US citizens can still transit an airport in Turkey, but should reconfirm itineraries with their airline as a precaution.
- Reconfirm any scheduled appointments at relevant diplomatic facilities.
- Contact the closest Embassy or Consulate of Turkey if you have questions regarding this regulation.
