Avoid Nonessential Travel

U.S. Department of State

  • Central African Republic Travel Warning. The Department of State warns U.S. citizens to avoid travel to the Central African Republic (CAR) due to an unpredictable security situation subject to rapid deterioration, activities of armed groups, and violent crime.
  • Pakistan Travel Warning. The Department of State warns U.S. citizens against all non-essential travel to Pakistan.
  • Tunisia Travel Warning. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens to avoid travel to southeastern Tunisia along the Libyan border as well as the mountainous areas in the country’s west due to the threat of terrorism.
  • Syria Travel Warning. The Department of State continues to warn U.S. citizens against all travel to Syria and strongly recommends that U.S. citizens remaining in Syria depart immediately.
  • Turkey Travel Warning. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey.

CDC

  • Yellow Fever in Angola. The Ministry of Health in Angola has reported an ongoing outbreak of yellow fever in Luanda Province. The government of Angola requires all travelers older than 9 months to show proof of yellow fever vaccination on arrival. In addition, CDC recommends that all travelers aged 9 months or older be vaccinated against yellow fever.

U.S. Department of State

  • Saudi Arabia Travel Warning. The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to carefully consider the risks of traveling to Saudi Arabia. There continue to be reports of threats against U.S. citizens and other Westerners, as well as locations frequented by them.
  • Colombia Travel Warning. Tens of thousands of U.S. citizens safely visit Colombia each year for tourism, business, university studies, and volunteer work. Despite significant decreases in overall crime in Colombia, continued vigilance is warranted due to an increase in recent months of violent crime, including crime resulting in the deaths of American citizens.
  • Laos Travel Alert. The U.S. Embassy Vientiane has restricted official travel by Embassy staff on the “new road” between the Kasi junction and the Road 4 junction.  This is due to shooting attacks targeting vehicles traveling the “new road” northwest of Kasi in Luang Prabang Province at about 9:00p.m. on March 23, 2016.

Zika News

CDC

  • Zika virus advisory.  CDC recommends that travelers to Saint Lucia, Kosrae (Federated States of Micronesia), Fiji, and Puerto Rico protect themselves from the Zika virus by preventing from mosquito bites.  Sexual transmission of Zika virus from a male partner is possible, so travelers are also encouraged to use condoms.
