  • Israel military is checking possibility it killed Hamas leader Sinwar (Reuters) – The Israeli military said on Thursday that it is investigating the possibility that it has killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, one of the masterminds of the devastating Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel that triggered the Gaza war. At this stage, his identity cannot be confirmed, said the military.
  • At least 28 dead in Gaza strike, which Israel says targeted gunmen (Reuters) – At least 28 Palestinians including children were killed on Thursday in an Israeli strike on a shelter in the northern Gaza Strip, a Gaza health ministry official said, while Israel said the attack targeted tens of militants at the site. Dozens were also injured in the strike, said the official, Medhat Abbas, adding: “There is no water to extinguish the fire. There is nothing. This is a massacre.”
  • Mexico military’s role in migrant massacre comes under sharp scrutiny (Reuters) – A wooden fence, warped and battered by a crashing vehicle, is the only sign on this quiet dirt road of the six migrants killed by Mexican soldiers who opened fire on a pick-up truck here earlier this month. While the military has said soldiers fired on a convoy they mistook for organized crime after hearing explosions, local residents interviewed by Reuters cast doubt on that account.

The move by Goita is a sign that he has no intention of ceding power to civilians in the landlocked West African country.
  • Moldovan police say people trained in Russia for Moldovan protests (Reuters) – Moldovan police said on Thursday they had uncovered a scheme involving people being regularly sent to Russia for training in how to take part in protests and other civil unrest inside Moldova.
