Avoid Nonessential Travel

U.S. Department of State

• Turkey Travel Warning. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey. In light of the July 15 coup attempt and the resulting potential for interruptions to travel and daily life, we suggest U.S. citizens reconsider travel to Turkey at this time.
• Haiti Travel Warning. The Department of State has issued this Travel Warning to inform U.S. citizens traveling to or living in Haiti about the lack of adequate emergency medical facilities, and the security environment in Haiti. Haiti’s emergency response network, along with the continued presence of serious crime and civil unrest, should be carefully considered when planning travel.

CDC

• Yellow Fever Advisory.  The Ministries of Health in Angola, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have reported outbreaks of yellow fever in these countries. The CDC recommends that all travelers aged 9 months or older be vaccinated against yellow fever.

WHO

• Stopping a cholera outbreak in South Sudan. In an effort to stop the spread of cholera in South Sudan, the Ministry of Health, with support from WHO and partners, is ramping up disease surveillance, treatment and prevention efforts. Conflict is threatening the health of thousands of people and 271 cholera cases have been reported, including 14 deaths.

United Nations

• Some 4,000 South Sudanese fleeing into Uganda daily – UN warns. Recent fighting in South Sudan has forced 37,491 people to flee to Uganda in the past three weeks, averaging more than 4,000 a day in the past week, the United Nations refugee agency warned today.

Zika News

CDC

• Zika virus advisory.  Local mosquito transmission of Zika virus infection (Zika) has been reported in Saba and Sint Eustatius. Local mosquito transmission means that mosquitoes in the area are infected with Zika virus and are spreading it to people.  For a list of all Zika virus travel notices by region, visit the CDC Zika travel information.
