Foreign Course Articulation

The foreign course articulation process allows students to request that their study abroad courses be evaluated for UT Dallas equivalency. Students can complete a foreign course articulation form (FCAF) at any stage of their study abroad program, even prior to applying. To submit the FCAF, follow the instructions below and review our comprehensive FCAF Guide:

  1. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss your degree plan requirements.
  2. Download the Foreign Course Articulation Form (FCAF).
  3. Complete the top section, indicate the host institution and/or the institution issuing your study abroad transcript, and fill in Courses to be taken abroad.
    • If you intend to have a course reviewed for Core Curriculum equivalency, mark “Yes” under Petition for Core?
  4. Submit your FCAF, an updated degree plan, and the corresponding course syllabus/syllabi with a suggested UTD course equivalency to the appropriate school unit for review (contact information for school units is located on page 3 of the form). Course equivalencies can be generic transfer credit if no exact match exists but must include a department name and number (ex. ECON 3311 or ECON 3000-level). You may need to submit your FCAF to multiple schools.
    • Note: Course descriptions do not provide enough detail for the teaching unit to determine UTD equivalency. A detailed syllabus is required for each proposed study abroad course listed on the FCAF.
  5. The school unit will review course(s) and determine the UTD course equivalent; if approved for Core equivalency, the school unit will indicate the Core Designation on the form.
  6. Once you have received approvals from the appropriate school unit(s), meet with your academic advisor to discuss how the articulated courses fit within your remaining degree plan requirements. Your academic advisor will sign at the bottom of the form.
  7. Submit your completed and signed FCAF to the Office of International Education (OIE@utdallas.edu).
  8. After you complete your program and your official transcript is received, the OIE will submit your study abroad transcript, along with your FCAF(s), to the Registrar, who will post the transfer credit to your account.
