2023 Photo Contest

Accepting submissions until September 1st, 2023.

Eligibility

UTD students who participated in an international education abroad program during Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Maymester 2023, and/or Summer 2023 semesters are eligible to submit photos for this contest. Photos must have been taken during your time abroad in your host country in 2022-2023

Photo Contest Categories

  1. Favorite Memory: These photos represent the highlight of your time abroad. Think about your favorite class, cultural experience or memorable moment. The photo should have you in it.
  2. The World is my Classroom: These photos can highlight the charm and creativity of your host institution and environments abroad.
  3. UTD Spirit:  These photos showcase UTD spirit while studying abroad. UTD logo must be shown.
  4. People’s Choice: We will post finalist photos on our Instagram (@comets_abroad) on September 25th. The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite photo via Instagram likes until October 2nd. The winner will be announced at our Study Abroad Fair on October 4th.
    • NOTE: You may submit up to 5 photos per category!

Submission Requirements

  • The content of your images must be in accordance with the University’s code of conduct.
  • Submit ORIGINAL high-resolution photos, minimum of 2400 X 3000 pixels or 300dpi or 1MB in size (check photo properties). Rename photos to include a short description of the photo as image title. Photo formats accepted are .jpg or .png.
  • Make sure people in the photos have given permission for you to take their image AND have it published on social media, in UTD print publications, and other media outlets.
  • Photos must be free of inappropriate content, including but not limited to alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs.
  • Submit photos via the online entry form.

Consider the Ethics of Your Photography

  • Is your photo respectful to the subject(s) and the host country?
  • Did the people in your photo consent to be photographed and are they aware you’re submitting it into a photo contest?
  • Does your photo promote any negative stereotypes or false generalizations about the subject(s) or the host country? Think less like a tourist and more like a local who is communicating what it is like to experience day-to-day events and activities.

Winners and Prizes

  • The selection committee will be comprised of the OIE Staff.
  • Judges will select one 1st place winner per category. No student can win more than one category.
  • Winners and prizes will be announced during the International Education Week 2023, November 13th -17th.
