OIE-Administered Programs
OIE works with faculty and departments across campus to provide administrative and logistical support for a wide range of diverse, inclusive, and exciting programs to align with our mission of bringing the world to UT Dallas and UT Dallas to the world. The goal is to increase access to international education opportunities for our diverse student population.
Program Types
Fall Special Session (Wintermester): These programs are a three credit hour course led by one faculty member. The course is tied to the fall semester and has a two-week travel component after fall semester final exams, typically at the beginning of January. Students will meet for the class before the travel period to fulfill the necessary contact hours. Students apply for the Fall Special Session program, register during the appropriate fall semester, and then take the course during the designated fall special session period. Student program fees are $1000.
Spring Special Session (Maymester): These programs are a three credit hour course led by one faculty member. The course is tied to the spring semester and has a two-week travel component directly after spring semester final exams, typically at the end of May. Students will meet for the class before the travel period to fulfill the necessary contact hours. Students apply for the Spring Special Session program, register during the appropriate spring semester, and then take the course during the designated spring special session period. Student program fees are $1000.
Course registration for Wintermester and Maymester programs are included in fall/spring tuition costs. For most students, this means there is no additional tuition cost to participate in a Wintermester or Maymester for full time students (12 credit hours). Part time students will incur additional tuition costs for enrollment below 12 credit hours.
Summer: These programs are a combination of two three-credit hour courses led by two faculty members. Courses are taught abroad for 5-6 weeks, depending on the program. Students apply for the summer program, register for the summer semester, incur in summer tuition, and take the courses during the summer for a total of six credit hours. Student program fees are $1500.

Our goal is to develop innovative, sustainable programs that can be repeated annually, enhancing the current offerings by introducing new dimensions such as location, target student populations, academic disciplines, and unique student experiences. To support the development of such programs, the Office of International Education (OIE), in collaboration with the Honors College, the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Provost’s Office. Each award will provide up to $5,000 to cover travel expenses. These awards are designed to facilitate exploration and planning efforts for new OIE-administered faculty-led study abroad programs. Applications due by March 3, 2025 for Faculty Led program proposals in 2027.
Departmentally-Administered Programs (DAFL)
Many departments, colleges and schools administer study abroad programs independent of the Office of International Education. Your department, college or school can design, market and manage your program with minimal support from OIE, as well as online resources and assistance implementing best practices to ensure student health and safety.
How to Submit a DAFL Program
